Marcopolo backs Grenda

Bus industry identity Geoff Grenda will continue with the new-era Volgren as its chairman

August 8, 2012

Geoff Grenda has been officially appointed chairman of bus manufacturer Volgren following a comprehensive review of the company’s strategy by Marcopolo executives.

Brazilian bus maker Marcopolo purchased a majority stake in Volgren from the Grenda family in December 2011, with the Melbourne-based Grendas continuing to hold 25 per cent of in Volgren.

“The appointment of Geoff Grenda as chairman cements a strong Australian influence in the company’s future and signals a steady road ahead for the company,” Volgren Chief Executive Officer Peter Dale says.

“Geoff has years of industry knowledge and he is a natural fit.

“His leadership has been recognised by Marcopolo, who have welcomed him as the business embarks on its next phase, as part of Marcopolo’s global growth strategy.”

Dale says Grenda’s appointment was made following a visit to Australia by Marcopolo’s senior executive team in July, coinciding with the BusVic Maintenance Conference and Bus Expo.

“The Marcopolo senior executive team also reaffirmed Volgren’s future strategy, which means we are investing in product development and improving the high standards of our after-sales service,” says Dale.
