Buses’ morning tweet

Canberra’s Action buses will extend its trial of tweeting service updates during weekday morning peak periods

May 21, 2012

Canberra’s Action buses Twitter trial has received significant positive feedback from bus users, and will continue for use on morning services.

ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher says the Twitter site – @ACTIONbuses – has added more than 300 new followers over the last four weeks of the trial bringing total users to 1100.

“Service delivery information will continue to be tweeted between 7.30 am to 9 am from Monday to Friday,” Gallagher says.

Action’s Twitter feed provides information on major service disruptions, changes to routes and timetables, and event-related transport information.

“The use of Twitter is just one way in which the ACT Government is aiming to improve information sharing,” says Gallagher.

“We are currently working on implementing a real-time arrival and departure passenger information system which is due for release in 2013.”

Gallagher says the ACT Government recognises improving information delivery to passengers is a key way to encourage more people to use public transport.

“Action users also have access to the online and smartphone enabled Trip Planner through Google Transit,” she says.

“This enables passengers to plan customised point-to-point trips from their desktop or mobile.”
