Trad to take shadow transport duties

Anna Bligh's successor given the role of Queensland’s opposition spokeswoman on transport

April 30, 2012

Queensland Labor’s candidate to contest the electorate vacated by former Premier Anna Bligh has been given the job of opposition spokeswoman on transport.

Jackie Trad has declared victory following the by-election for the seat of South Brisbane on April 28. Opposition leader Annastacia Palaszczuk yesterday appointed Trad to the shadow portfolio.

Trad was previously a long-time adviser to Bligh and an ALP assistant state secretary. Counting is still ongoing for the seat of South Brisbane and the Liberal-National Party (LNP) has not conceded defeat.

Trad, if elected, will bring Labor’s parliamentary numbers to seven. The LNP, led by former Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, has 78 MPs.

Bligh announced in March she would leave politics after Queenslanders handed the LNP a resounding victory in the state election.
