Bus travel will be free for fans travelling to and from major sporting events in Brisbane this weekend.

Translink CEO Neil Scales says fans travelling to the Super Rugby match between Queensland Reds and Stormers at Suncorp Stadium tonight will get free bus and train fares.

Scales says fans travelling to the AFL clash between Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns at the Gabba on Saturday night will also get free fares, as will fans on their way to the A-League Grand Final between Brisbane Roar and Perth Glory at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

“To ease traffic congestion around the stadiums, free travel will be made available for customers before and after the games,” Scales says.

Scales says on match day fans could use their pre-purchased event ticket to travel free on Brisbane Transport buses and Queensland Rail trains.

Scales says both stadiums were well serviced by public transport.

“Public transport makes it easy to get to home games at Suncorp Stadium and The Gabba as both stadiums are close to major train and busway stations,” Scales says.

“Customers can also travel free on event shuttle buses which will be running at regular intervals prior to the game and up to one hour after it finishes.”
