Australia’s ‘royalty’ on board at BusVic seminar

With Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II in Australia for CHOGM this month, attention is being turned to women in executive positions.

Australia is in an enviable position, now with a female Prime Minister, female Governor-General, female state and territory heads of government – and several senior executive positions in the public transport sector filled by women.

BusVic will bring several leading female executives together for its annual ‘Women on Board’ seminar and lunch at Crown Towers in Melbourne on November 30, headed by one of Australia’s ‘national treasures’, Ita Buttrose.

BusVic Industry Development Manager Craig Spurr says the Women on Board lunch which follows the seminar is now in its sixth year, and the seminar is in its second year.

Business franchising specialist Julia Camm will facilitate the event comprising two seminar sessions, the first led by Ita Buttrose on developing your own practical leadership strategy.

The second session is a panel discussion featuring Latrobe Valley Buslines’ Rhonda Renwick, Bacchus Marsh Coaches’ Sue McKenzie, and Property Council of Australia’s Jennifer Cunich.

This second session will explore leadership issues in the bus and passenger transport industry.

The seminars will be followed by a networking luncheon hosted by Julia Camm featuring a keynote address by Ita Buttrose.

Miss Buttrose will take part in the seminar sessions throughout the morning, culminating in the business lunch and her keynote address.

Spurr says 90 people attended the inaugural Women on Board seminar in 2010, and expects that number to grow for the 2011 event.

“We want to encourage all industry leaders to come along to the seminar,” he says.

“This event has continued to grow in stature in recent years and is a fantastic platform for promoting and developing diversity in the bus industry.”

The Women on Board seminar and lunch will be held at River Rooms Crown Towers Hotel, Southbank, Melbourne, starting on 8.30am, November 30, 2011.
