Buses roar to F1

Formula One mania grips Melbourne this weekend as Metlink offers free transport to Albert Park

A long weekend of Formula One racing is about to be unleashed in Melbourne, attracting thousands to the Albert Park venue by public transport.

Metlink has announced free shuttle transport for bus and tram travellers who hold an F1 admission ticket.

The free Grand Prix shuttle tram leaves rail stations Southern Cross for gates 1 to 4 and Flinders Street for gates 5 to 10 throughout the four day event which starts today.

Free shuttle trams will also operate from Federation Square to gates 5, 8, 9 and 10 at the circuit.

Wheelchair accessible buses will operate from Southern Cross Station on all four days of the event.

Buses will run from the corner of Spencer and Collins streets to gates 1, 2, 4, 9 and 10 every 15 minutes from 9am to 10.30pm.

Grand Prix express buses will run every 10 minutes between Crown Casino at Clarendon Street and gates 1, 2 and 3 on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 1pm.

The bus shuttle return journey into Crown Casino on Saturday is from 5pm to 9.30pm and Sunday 6.30pm and 9.30pm.
