Work on the $359 million Pacific Highway upgrade at Banora Point, NSW
has entered a new phase with the demolition of two existing highway bridges over Minjungbal Drive.
The upgrade features a six-lane divided carriageway with an improved alignment and a speed limit of 100km/h.
As part of the project, a viaduct of about 330 metres will be constructed across the central valley south of Sexton Hill.
Laura Street will be realigned to meet Short Street and the existing Pacific Highway at a four-way intersection.
“This upgrade will bring major benefits including improved safety on the road, uninterrupted highway traffic flow, reduced travel times and easy access on and off the highway for local traffic,” NSW Minister for Roads David Borger says.
The demolition of the bridges started on Monday and was completed yesterday.
