Back to uni bus boost

With a new university semester about to start TransLink will boost bus services between Brisbane’s West End and UQ at St Lucia, starting next Monday

Extra buses will be added between Brisbane’s West End – a popular student residential and lifestyle precinct – to University of Queensland’s St Lucia Campus, starting next Monday.

Queensland Transport Minister Rachel Nolan says 123 extra services a week would be added to route 192 – West End-UQ-City – from February 21 to assist students returning to UQ.

Nolan says the extra services would run from Mollison Street via Montague Road to West End then to UQ Lakes, with bus frequency increasing to every 15 minutes in the peak.

“The State Government is expanding route 192 to provide more than 4950 additional weekly seats for students and staff in West End, whilst the CityCat services are not able to operate,” she says.

“This is excellent news and with the bus route connecting with CityGlider services from Mollison Street, passengers have access to buses that run every five minutes in peak.

Nolan says the upgraded 192 route will also replace Saturday-only 191 West End Ferry to West End Markets service.

“The extra buses start during the university’s Orientation Week, from February 21, enabling students to familiarise themselves with the service before classes start.”

Nolan says the Queensland Government had added extra bus services since ferry services were suspended during the Brisbane floods.
