O’Brien goes in ministerial reshuffle

Troy Buswell returns to the frontbench in WA, taking over as the state’s new transport minister

December 14, 2010

Simon O’Brien has lost the transport portfolio as part of a ministerial reshuffle announced today by Premier Colin Barnett.

The former treasurer, Troy Buswell, has been appointed Minister for Transport, while O’Brien has been moved to the newly-created finance, commerce and small business portfolio.

After taking on the job of treasurer in the wake of Buswell’s resignation from the Cabinet earlier this year, Barnett has given control of the purse strings to Christian Porter.

“I am very pleased to be announcing these changes today as they will bolster the strength of our team and allow us to continue to deliver on our agenda for Western Australia,” Barnett says.

Helen Morton was also appointed Minister for Mental Health and Disability Services.

Donna Faragher has lost the environment portfolio, with Barnett appointing her Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier. Graham Jacobs will return to the backbench after being stripped of water and mental health responsibilities.

“I’d like to particularly thank Donna Faragher and Graham Jacobs for their dedication and effort in their respective portfolios,” Barnett says.

He says the new ministry will be sworn in today.
