Australian bus and coach supplier Bus and Coach International (BCI) is gearing up for a return to Shanghai for the annual Busworld Asia expo, held in March.

It could be sweet return to China’s mega city having picked up two Busworld Asia (BAAV) awards at this event in 2009 for Best New Energy Bus and Best new Energy City Bus.

"After winning BAAV awards at this prestigious international industry event, we are excited to have a BCI presence at the expo again," BCI Communications Manager Michelle Nazzari says.

BCI plans to include an operator’s tour of new production facilities at Xiamen, south of Shanghai, around the time of the expo.

The BCI tour will be the fifth of its type to China for Australian operators.

"BCI are looking forward to having new and existing customers join us for the 5th Annual BCI Bus Operators Tour," Nazzari says.

"We are particularly excited to invite bus operators along to visit our brand new production facility at Xiamen, off the east coast of China near Taiwan."

With BCI expansion including a new Sydney dealership, the finishing touches of the production facility, and expansion into the North American market, Nazzari says BCI have not yet finalised dates for the operator tour.

But planning for the Busworld Asia expo is well underway, attracting some heavyweights in public transport, including UITP (International Association of Public Transport).

At last week’s UITP conference in Hong Kong, the association struck a formal agreement with Busworld’s organizer VNU Exhibitions to play a leading promotions role at the March event in Shanghai.
