Brisbane’s annual show – The Ekka – kicked into gear this week with an expected spike in bus patronage over the next ten days.

A TransLink spokesperson says extra shuttle buses and drivers have been sourced for the duration of the show.

Shuttle buses and trains will run to and from the RNA Showgrounds about every 15 minutes from 8.45am.

“More than 200,000 people catch public transport to the Ekka each year,” the spokesperson says.

“Last year there were 5.3 million passenger trips across the entire TransLink network between August 6 -15.”

TransLink staff will promote bus and train transport during the show at the Go Card bus exhibit at the show grounds in Brisbane’s Bowen Hills.

Some TransLink services will operate to weekend and public holiday timetables next Wednesday for the traditional Ekka show public holiday.

Services may also be affected on Monday due to regional show holidays.

Ekka travel information is at the TransLink website www.translink.com.au or by calling 13 12 30.
