Victoria’s new Public Transport Minister Martin Pakula says he expects the myki ticket system to be working on trams and buses in Melbourne by the end of the year.

Pakula recently cited the successful introduction of myki, improving the reliability on the public transport network, and implementing new train timetables as his top three priorities ahead of the November election.

Since its inception the myki system has been beset with problems. It was launched late and hundreds of millions of dollars over budget, and there is still no date for the system to operate on trams and buses in Melbourne.

More than 300,000 myki cards have been either registered for or issued in Victoria.
