Metro in Tasmania will operate Night Rider bus services over the Christmas and New Years break in a bid to reduce the number of drink and drug affected drivers on Hobart roads.

Metro’s festive season Night Rider bus services will operate on Hobart’s main bus routes after midnight on Friday 18 December, Christmas Eve and between Monday 28 December and Sunday 3 January.

A post-midnight service will also operate in Launceston and Burnie on New Year’s Eve.

Tasmania Minister for Infrastructure, Graeme Sturges, says Tasmanians are encouraged to take extra care on the roads.

“The initiative is designed simply to reduce the number of drink or drug drivers on our roads,” Sturges says.

“Every year we read or hear about road crashes. This year you have no excuse if you put yourself, your passengers and other road users at risk.”

Metro’s Night Rider services will operate south to Kingston and Blackmans Bay, north to Bridgewater, Gagebrook, Old Beach and Bowen Bridge, east to Rosny and Bellerive and in greater Hobart (Sandy Bay, West Hobart, North Hobart, etc.).
