The Queensland Government will open talks with residents in the north of Brisbane about possible routes for extending the Northern Busway from Kedron to Aspley.

Congestion and climate change are named as reasons to connect stage two of the Northern Busway (currently under construction from Windsor to Kedron) with Brisbane's growing northside communities.

The future busway will connect into the section of the Northern Busway currently under construction at Sadlier Street in Kedron, and could either follow the western side of Gympie Road through to Chermside or deviate to the Prince Charles Hospital.

From there, the busway will connect with a busway station and interchange that can serve the Chermside commercial area including Westfield Chermside.

Community consultation on the Northern Busway beyond Kedron will take place from 23 November to 18 December 2009.

Queensland’s population is growing by 100,000 people a year, the government says.
