On Friday, October 23 bus and coach insurer ABCUA celebrated 30 years of operation with a cocktail party at The Sofitel on Collins in Melbourne.

The breath-taking views of the sunset over Port Phillip Bay from the 35th floor set the scene for a fabulous evening.

The gala evening was attended by CEO of Austbrokers Lach Mckeough and his wife Jo.

Also in attendance was managing directors from various bus companies locally, regional and from interstate.

ABCUA’s original owner/founder John Wymond was present. It was his vision that enabled this business to get started, identifying a couple of regional operators having difficulties finding insurance for their buses over a certain size.

Wymond found the need to set up a more specialised product and the rest is history.

The night included outgoing general manager of Austagencies-ABCUA, Bill Patterson, delivering a humble speech thanking loyal clients that have been with the business since its inception in 1979.

Incoming general manager Craig Patterson acknowledged the milestone and referred to ABCUA’s strong relationships within the industry – and the dedication of its staff – as key reasons for its success.

The longest-serving staff member is fleet underwriter Keith Thorn, who has been with the company for 27 years.

ABCUA also has long-standing connections with each of the state’s bus associations.

This was apparent by the fact that there was good representation present by the various executive directors and Presidents from SA, Queensland, NSW, Tasmania and Victoria.

Bus Industry Confederation Executive Director Michael Apps was also present.
