An independent review into a new temporary part of Brisbane’s Gateway Motorway has called for increased signage to be placed on the road to increase safety.
The recommendation was made following two major truck crashes which have occurred on the section.
Included in recommendations to the Department of Main Roads by global planning and infrastructure group Parsons Brinckerhoff are the resizing and replacement of signage, and the combining of signage where ever possible
Parsons Brinckerhoff also confirmed an earlier finding by Main Roads that road conditions on the new section, which is situated just north of the Gateway Bridge, was safe for heavy vehicles.
“The independent reviewer has concluded there are no significant matters requiring urgent attention,” Minister for Main Roads Craig Wallace says.
“The independent reviewer confirmed that the new road configuration has been designed in accordance with design standards for 70km/h.”
Commenting on the outcome of the report, Wallace has urged all motorists to drive safely and stick to the speed limit in order to prevent any further heavy vehicle accidents.
“Driving to the conditions and observing both speed limits and advisory signals is vital to ensuring safety on our roads,” he says.
