Asia Motors Australia will re-introduce the Cosmos Midi Bus Chassis in 2010, the company announced today (Monday, August 17).

The Cosmos was previously imported and re-engined in Australia using a Cummins ISBe220 to meet emission standards. It was coupled to an Allison 2000 World Series Automatic Transmission.

The new Cosmos is manufactured by Hyundai, which, with Kia Motors, has rationalised its vehicle production facilities to avoid product duplication.

The new Cosmos is powered by a Hyundai D6GA Turbo Intercooled Euro 4 (Euro 5 capable) engine rated at 165Kw (221Hp).

There will be an optional 5 speed manual transmission but the standard transmission is an Allison S2500 World Series with six speed overdrive.

Other improvements include full air brakes in lieu of the previous air/hydraulic system, alloy wheels and an improved heavy duty air suspension developed for Australian conditions.

The first of the new Cosmos will be bodied in Malaysia by UBC Chiron, which currently supplies bodies to Asia Motors on the Daewoo chassis.

The body specification for the first vehicles is 43-45 seats with air conditioning in a school bus configuration.
