An online tour booking company has taken out top honours at the 2009 Queensland Telstra Business Awards.

Cairns-based business Tourstogo.com was announced overall winner of the 17th annual awards at Brisbane’s Hilton last night (Tuesday, July 28), in front of an audience of Queensland’s leading entrepreneurs.

With a strong foothold on the State’s tourism sector, Tourstogo.com was founded in 2005 by Elise Warring and her son Phillip.

Phillip Warring and business partner Andrew Johnston accepted the award on behalf of the company.

Telstra Business Group Managing Director and Telstra Business Awards Ambassador, Deena Shiff, says the judges were impressed with the sheer simplicity of the website.

“Tourstogo.com has found a niche in the globally competitive online tourism sector by automating the site’s key functions which helps ensure it’s constantly updated,” she says.

“Consumers no longer have to search multiple websites or visit travel agents to obtain colour brochures that are almost out of date with regard to prices when they hit the shelves.”

Tourstogo.com was also awarded winner of the Micro-Business Award.
