EXCLUSIVE: Crown Coaches welcomes Australias first electric coach

Victorian company Crown Coaches has taken delivery of a fully electric coach, the first of its kind in the country.

Victorian company Crown Coaches has taken delivery of a fully electric coach, the first of its kind in the country.

Crown Coaches Managing Director Victor Haoust told ABC the zero emission vehicle was about to go in to service running on short charter trips. He says the “back to base” coach will emit no emissions when running on-road and will be powered entirely by electricity, with no on-board generators.

Instead, at the end of the day’s operations, the coach will be plugged in to a power supply to recharge ready for the next day.

Haoust says the vehicle was purchased independently of the hybrid-electric bus trial being undertaken by the Victorian Government, Ventura Bus Lines and Grenda Transit Management.

Crown Coaches also has five hybrid diesel-electric BCI vehicles in service on school bus runs.
