Darryl Driver of the Driver Group was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the bus and coach sector at the 2009 Victorian Industry Awards held on Monday night in Melbourne.The awards were staged as part of BusVic’s 55th Maintenance Conference and Bus Expo, which attracted an estimated 1,500 through the turnstiles.
Driver was singled out for his role in developing both his family business and the wider industry.
Established in 1931, the family business operates transit route services in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, charters originating in Melbourne and operating to destinations around the country, Gray Line day tours in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Cairns, Adelaide, Darwin, Alice Springs and Tasmania and Great Sights day tours in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.
Driver Group also holds an interest in Best of Australia Travel Centres in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
Other award winners were:
- Bus Safety: Ivanhoe Bus Lines
- Environmental Innovation: Pulfran Transit-US Bus Lines
- Young Achiever: Robert Wright of Moreland Bus Lines
- Apprentice of the Year: Nathan Pinini of Rockleigh Tours, Diggers Rest.
