Adelaide Metro will take delivery of 20 new buses this month, providing 117 extra services from 20 July.

The new buses are part of a $118 million contract with Scania Australia and its Adelaide based contractor Custom Coaches to add approximately 160 brand new buses to the Adelaide Metro fleet over the next four years.

Premier Mike Rann says the buses will run on the busiest routes, providing much needed capacity to Adelaide commuters.

"These Scania buses are being built here in Adelaide and exceed the toughest emission standards anywhere in the world," he says.

The new buses will run from 20 July and provide for:

• Main North Road – 15 extra weekday services (eight morning/seven afternoon)
• Unley Road – 12 extra weekday services (four morning/eight afternoon)
• O-Bahn – 13 extra weekday services (six morning/seven afternoon)
• South Road – 10 extra weekday services (five morning/five afternoon)
• Coorara Avenue – Magill Road – 9 extra weekday services (three morning/six afternoon)
• Prospect Road – 7 extra weekday services (three morning/four afternoon)
• Fullarton Road – 6 extra weekday services (one morning/five afternoon)
• Payneham Road – 6 extra weekday services (two morning/four afternoon)
• ANZAC Highway – 5 extra weekday afternoon services
• Henley Beach Road – 4 extra weekday afternoon services
• Goodwood Road – 4 extra weekday afternoon services
• Portrush Road – 4 extra weekday services (two morning/two afternoon)
• Grange Road – 3 extra weekday services (one morning/two afternoon)
• Duthy Street – 3 extra weekday services (one morning/two afternoon)
• The Parade – 2 extra weekday morning services
• Beaumont – 2 extra weekday afternoon services
• Croydon Park – 2 extra weekday afternoon services
• Mount Barker – 2 extra weekday services (one morning/one afternoon)
• King William Road– 1 extra weekday afternoon service
• Towers Terrace– 1 extra weekday afternoon service
• North East Road– 1 extra weekday afternoon service
• Marden – 1 extra weekday afternoon service
