Work will this year begin on a multi-million dollar project to upgrade the Tullamarine Freeway and extend Broadmeadows Road in Victoria.

It has been reported $400 million will be allocated to the project as part of the $1.9 billion Metro Ring Road initiative to link Melbourne’s road network.

A spokesman for Minister for Roads and Ports Tim Pallas confirmed the report but says nothing can be discussed until after the Victorian Budget is released next week.

There are also reports of the development of rail links at Avalon Airport, which has won the backing of trucking magnate Lindsay Fox.

Fox, who last week opened a new facility in Essendon, says rail links at the airport “are inevitable”. He also suggested government approval was all that delayed the development getting off the ground.
