The Queensland Government will reduce the speed limit on a key road freight route in an effort to slash the number of accidents.
As part of a number of safety initiatives being undertaken by the Department of Main Roads, the speed limit on the Mount Lindesay Highway will be revised from 100km/h to 90km/h.
The 10km/h drop follows an analysis of the highway, which determined a drop in speed would cut the likelihood of accidents.
“The safety of all road users is the Bligh Government’s top priority, which is why the speed limit will be reduced from 100 km/h to 90km/h on this four-kilometre section of highway,” Minister for Main Roads Craig Wallace says.
“In the last 12 years, there have been six fatalities on this section. This safety initiative will help to reduce crashes on this important road which carries about 17,000 vehicles per day.”
Wallace has told motorists that police will enforce the new speed limit, which will be advertised via warning signs.
The Government has previously introduced revised speed limits on other routes, including the Ipswich Motorway and the Bruce and Warrego highways.
