Software boost for managing fatigue

A new software package to heavy vehicle drivers and operators with fatigue management is being offered to the transport industry

A new software package to heavy vehicle drivers and operators with fatigue management is being offered to the transport industry by developer Minorplanet.

The program, a fatigue exception report, will reduce the compliance burden for transport and logistics companies in the wake of the new fatigue laws.

The software indicates when a vehicle is started and tracks its movements via the global positioning system (GPS), while the new rules are built into the system, which alerts both the driver and base of potential breaches ahead of time, allowing drivers to focus on driving and also supports accuracy of drivers’ logbooks.

“The National Transport Council’s new heavy-vehicle fatigue laws are a positive step forward in improving safety on our roads, but have the potential to be a compliance nightmare for drivers and transport companies,” Minorplanet Chief Executive Steve Green says.

“Sharing the compliance burden is a significant step forward and allows drivers to focus on what’s important – safe driving. It also protects them against unrealistic schedules or contracts.

“For operators it allows a more efficient use of their assets and ensure their drivers are operating within the regulatory framework.”
