The long awaited Queensland school bus payment model is one step closer to fruition as QBIC puts cards on the table for Queensland Transport (QT) to finalise a proposal.

QBIC President Jason Ward and Executive Director David Tape met with senior Government and QT officials last week to demand action be taken on the ongoing delays of an implementation of an updated school bus payment model.

Tape did not rule out industrial action if industry concerns where not acted upon.

“Whilst QBIC accepts that Queensland Transport cannot make any commitment on behalf of Government, Government and Queensland Transport officials did advise that they are confident of an in principle decision being made to approve the proposal in late September of this year,” Tape says.

QT has assured QBIC the matter has progressed to senior Treasury officials and the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) and claim an in principle decision is pending within the next month or so.

QBIC accepted this action, however, did re-state that any decision in the negative would without doubt result in action by frustrated, financially burdened operators.

QT and QBIC agreed that once a favourable decision is made, further work is required to ensure that the line item amounts accurately reflect the costs of operation.
