For her enthusiasm, drive and talent for workforce solutions for the transport and logistics (T&L) industry, Queensland Transport’s Director (Industry Capability), Louise Perram-Fisk, has won Queensland Businesswoman of the Year – Public Sector/Not-for-Profit 2008.

Louise leads the Queensland Transport Industry Capability Initiative, a crucial project impacting over one million jobs in T&L. In short, Louise partners with the T&L industry to address the critical skills and labour shortage now and for the future. Her passion for T&L sees her go above and beyond in every aspect of her work.

Louise’s impact on the T&L industry in less than two years has been phenomenal. With no precedent to guide her, Louise has driven the Industry Capability Initiative to become a multi-award winning, nationally publicised program that sets the standard for workforce solutions in T&L across Australia.

Through Louise’s passion, what began as a temporary project is now considered core business of Queensland Transport.

Louise undertook the immense task of changing the culture of the industry to recognise the value in best practice people management. For the first time ever, she united T&L businesses, associations, unions and government to address workforce challenges collaboratively.

In a short period, Louise and her team have achieved:

    • significant culture change across T&L;

    • changed community perception of the industry;
    • innovative, workable and sustainable solutions to address T&L workforce challenges;
    • considerable increase in training and development of people in T&L;
    • strong partnerships with over 600 industry stakeholders; and
    • partnerships between industry sectors and synergies between projects as never accomplished before.
