Caltex has completed a major upgrade of one of its Queensland fuel distribution terminals to increase the use ethanol-blended fuel.
New ethanol facilities have been installed at Caltex’s Lytton terminal, with a statement from the company saying service stations in Brisbane and regional Queensland can now offer more Bio E10 unleaded petrol with 10 percent ethanol.
The upgrade included a new storage tank capable of holding 900,000 litres of ethanol. Caltex also overhauled its blending procedure, installing an inline system.
“This will significantly decrease the loading time compared with the previous system utilised at Caltex’s smaller Rocklea distribution terminal,” Caltex managing director and chief executive Des King says
Caltex spent about $3 million upgrading its terminal and there is a similar upgrade happening at Caltex’s Banksmeadow terminal in NSW, with King saying it is part of the company’s plan to offer consumers more choice.
“These upgrades are an essential component of our plan to give an increased number of customers the opportunity to choose between regular unleaded and petrol with renewable ethanol,” he says.
King says there are currently 93 Caltex service stations across Queensland and 228 nationwide offering Bio E10 unleaded petrol with10 per cent ethanol, and he expects the fuel blend will become more popular as people look at ways of cutting heir greenhouse gas emissions.
