Queanbeyan based Dean’s Buslines has expanded their operation by purchasing long established, 54 year-old, Yass and Mitchell based Transborder Express.

Deane’s Group General Manager Stephen Bushby says the new enterprise offers considerable synergies in operating a fully integrated regional bus network in the Canberra and South East New South West Region.

“A linking of Queanbeyan and Yass based services will facilitate the introduction of timed transfer facilities at Canberra’s City Bus Interchange for services to and from Yass to the Airport and Queanbeyan,” Bushby says.

“Opportunities to introduce through ticketing and to integrate other services across the region will also be explored.”

The Canberra, Queanbeyan, South Coast and Yass based divisions of Deane’s now operate in nine local government areas in NSW, in addition to the ACT: Bega Valley, Bombala, Cooma Monaro, Eurobodalla, Palerang, Queanbeyan, Shoalhaven, Snowy River and Yass Valley, the largest operation of its type in Southern NSW.

Bushby says the Group is aware of the growth in travel demand right across the network, especially on the Yass – Canberra – Queanbeyan corridor, both from adult commuters and students.

“However, before we make any alterations to the existing services from Yass we will be conducting a survey of residents of Yass Valley Council area and Hall seeking their suggestions and ideas,” Bushby explains.

“The expanding business is dedicated to providing the best possible service to the residents of South East NSW.

“For the present, it is business as usual and Deane’s will continue to operate all Transborder services including the daily Surfborder from Ulladulla and Batemans Bay to Canberra, the daily Alpinexpress from Canberra to Thredbo and the Lever Snow Express to the Snowy Mountains,” Bushby says.

A total of 22 buses and coaches were acquired by Deane’s resulting in a group fleet of nearly 120 vehicles based at depots in Queanbeyan, Pambula, Mitchell and Yass.
