In the world of environmental friendliness the onus is usually on cleaner engines and fuels however an online training and compliance management centre, Learning Seat, has created a new course to help organisations enable their staff to reduce the environmental impact of daily working practices.

The Green Office course, originally created as an e-Learning module by Boroondara City Council in Victoria, can be used and adapted by other organisations to provide the same benefits.

Michael Solomon, the chief executive officer of Learning Seat, says surveys show climate change is a hugely important issue for Australians, who are keen to make changes to their lifestyle in order to reduce their carbon footprint.

“The module Boroondara City Council created was a fantastic base for us to work with. It was also recognised recently at the ECO-buy awards by winning in the category of ‘Communicating Green Purchasing’ in 2006/2007,” Solomon says.

“I would like to thank the Council for allowing us to adapt their program and bring it into the market for other organisations and businesses to use.”

A number of other local councils, corporate organisations and peak industry bodies have already expressed a high level of interest in this course.

“Our new Green Office course, gives organisations the opportunity to help their employees in leading a ‘green’ life inside the workplace,” Solomon explains.

“At Learning Seat, we are committed to reducing carbon emissions and are a huge advocate of the Green Office movement.

“Covering three areas in the workplace – kitchen, desk area and printing area – Learning Seat’s Green Office course is an interactive, educational experience outlining simple behavioural changes that can make a big environmental difference in a cost-effective way.”

The course outlines ways to reduce paper wastage as well as carbon dioxide emissions.
