Police are currently investigating an incident on a bus which resulted in a 62-year-old male bus driver being assaulted on Queensland's Gold Coast.

About 1.20pm yesterday five teenagers were allegedly damaging the interior of the bus with graffiti before a passenger notified the driver.

The driver called for assistance as he pulled the bus into Australia Fair on Scarborough Street, Southport.

Three of the teenagers escaped through the roof hatch at the back of the bus and then jumped from the roof of the bus.

Two teenage boys allegedly assaulted the driver before being detained by police who responded quickly to the incident.

The driver was uninjured in the assault.

A 15-year-old Coombabah boy and a 14-year-old Surfers Paradise boy are currently assisting police with their inquiries into this incident.

Inquiries are continuing into the location of the three young men who escaped through the roof hatch of the bus.
