The Queensland Government is hailing the opening of the new Sheepstation Creek bridge on the D’Aguilar Highway as an answer to growing traffic levels.
The concrete bridge, which replaced the old timber structure, has 11-metre-wide approaches, two 3.5-metre lanes and two-metre shoulders, Minister for Main Roads Warren Pitt says.
“The old timber bridge wasn’t designed to carry today’s traffic volumes and the new bridge, which is 60cm higher than its predecessor, is also significantly more flood resistant,” Pitt says.
Final works, such as guardrails and the removal of the sidetrack, are expected to be completed at the end of the month.
During that time, speed limits will be set at 60kmh, going to up to 100kmh once work is completed.
