STA say late delivery holding up new buses

The State Transit Authority (STA) say a delivery of new buses is six months overdue.

Acting chief executive Peter Rowley says there are about 50 Mercedes Benz buses near completion, as part of on overall order of 250 buses to replace part of Sydney’s fleet.

Rowley claims while buses are overdue, it doesn’t mean Sydney’s fleet is falling short as the new buses will replace, not add to overall
numbers.

“There is a delay in the rollout and that is what Mercedes and Custom Coaches are working through at the moment,” he says.

“When they solve those problems and have the bus registered, then they’ll give it to us for acceptance.”

New South Wales Opposition transport spokeswoman, who obviously doesn’t realise how long it takes to build a bus, let alone 50, says the delay in rolling out the buses is unacceptable.

“This issue is an ongoing one but demonstrates the Minister for Transport’s inability to actually deal with his portfolio,” Gladys Berejiklian says.

“Here we have a classic example of bureaucratic madness overtaking what is actually needed to improve the system.”
