It appears jurisdictions themselves are coming to terms with ways to standardise their own internal standards as less experienced inspectors come into the industry and older more experienced inspectors leave.

The issue for operators is one of inconsistency. One day you can pass an inspection and the next you can fail…without changing a single thing in your operation or on your vehicle within the same jurisdiction.

The grey areas are slowly becoming black and white at the expense of a common sense approach which helps operators reach compliance.

To get a nationally accredited and certified vehicle inspection standard can only really be done through the direction of the industry associations working together with state and federal jurisdictions.

And even then, you would have to regulate and audit the inspectors/auditors.
