The Brisbane City Council has pulled 30 buses from service as a safety precaution after a gas explosion at a council depot early yesterday.

A male employee was taken to the QEII hospital with minor injuries.

The incident is under investigation because it is still unclear what caused the explosion.

The buses which were withdrawn were all built in the same batch as the bus involved in the explosion.

Councillor Jane Prentice says there is no danger to the public because the problem is related to the refuelling process.

“Our people and the union and everyone said to me it is OK to put them on the road – they would not be there if there was any thought they wouldn’t be safe,” she says.

The Council says the shortage of buses will mean slight delays for commuters today.
