Public transport is set to become more inclusive for Victorians, with free travel now extended to both veterans and war widows on Remembrance Day and seniors on weekends from January 2026.
The initiatives, introduced by the Victorian government in partnership with operator Kinetic, aim to make travel easier, fairer and more accessible for those who have given much to the community.
From November 10 to 12, 2025, Kinetic’s SkyBus network will offer free airport transfers to veterans, war widows, and widowers travelling to commemorate Remembrance Day. The offer covers all SkyBus routes, including the Melbourne City Express, Eastern Express, Sunshine Express, Peninsula Express, Avalon City Express and Hobart City Express.
Eligible passengers need to present a DVA Gold or White Card, Veterans Victoria card, War Widows badge, or service medals when boarding.

Kinetic Managing Director Matthew Campbell says the company is proud to honour those who served through this gesture of respect and gratitude.
“Remembrance Day is an opportunity for all Australians to honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country,” Campbell says.
“It’s a privilege to offer free travel as a small way of saying thank you.”
From January 1, 2026, the Victorian government will also expand fare entitlements for Seniors Concession myki holders, who will be able to travel for free anywhere in the state on weekends.
Currently, senior travellers can only travel free within two consecutive zones. The statewide entitlement will save regular passengers more than $360 a year, allowing them to connect with family, attend events, or explore regional areas without incurring additional costs.
Seniors must carry their Seniors Card and continue to tap on and off as usual, though their myki will not be charged. The new entitlement will be automatically applied to all eligible cards on January 1.
Together, these initiatives highlight Victoria’s growing commitment to equitable and community-driven public transport, recognising the contributions of veterans while helping older residents stay active, connected and independent.
