Winter woollies may be needed, but the topics will be hot at this year's TasBus conference

Winter woollies may be needed, but with a range of hot topics to be covered, TasBus General Manager Geoff Lewis says this year’s Tasmanian bus conference will be well worth attending.
“Bring your warm clothes – don’t come in shorts,”
he says.
Lewis says the Tasmanian conference, held June 4 at the Launceston Country Club on the outskirts of Launceston, will cover all the major issues affecting the industry in just one day.
“It’s a conference for the members to take away information so that they can operate their business in a more professional manner – particularly with changes surrounding the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, the workplace harmonisation standards, and the new regulations coming through,” he says.
Lewis says a devoted crowd of about 100 delegates from across Australia are expected to attend the event.
He says the conference’s size will allow a close-nit atmosphere for delegates to discuss issues and meet new people in the industry.
“People get a chance to meet every one,” he says.
“A lot of the suppliers love coming down because its small and personal and they get the chance to talk to people.”
Topics to be covered at the conference include Workplace Standards Harmonisation, the Personal Properties Securities Act, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, the new DIER passenger transport regulations, and changes to workers compensation.
There will also be a presentation from Green’s MP Tim Morris and a panel discussion to flesh-out issues.
