The Minns government has released the draft Illawarra Shoalhaven Strategic Regional Integrated Transport Plan, a 20-year roadmap designed to guide the region’s transport future.
It is the first integrated regional transport plan released in more than a decade and outlines priorities across public transport, active travel, roads and freight.
The draft plan draws on data, evidence and consultation with more than 40 stakeholders, including councils, local MPs and community groups.
It identifies short, medium and long-term actions to support population growth and improve access to essential services across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.

Residents can now review the draft and provide feedback until Monday, February 9, 2026 at haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au. A community survey is available to help people respond easily, and detailed submissions can also be uploaded or emailed. Transport for NSW staff will host pop-up sessions across the region during the consultation period to speak directly with residents.
Minister for the Illawarra and the South Coast Ryan Park says the plan provides a clear picture of the future transport network.
“The Illawarra is growing fast, and our transport network needs to grow with it. This work is about helping people get to work, school, the hospital and the beach more easily while keeping freight moving,” Park says.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison says community feedback has shaped the draft.
“People want more travel choices, safer roads and better connections. This draft plan reflects those priorities,” she says.
Local MPs across the region encouraged residents to participate, noting calls for safer roads, stronger town-to-town connections and more reliable public transport.
Community consultation will continue through early 2026 before the final plan is prepared.
