Western Australian operator Go West Tours has revealed that its first electric coach has reached a milestone on the first anniversary of its operations in February.
The zero-emissions coach model services South32’s Worsley Alumina operations near Collie. Since it began operating on February 13 last year, it has travelled 75,000 kilometres and reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 65 tonnes.
Go West general manager Brad Bunce says it’s fantastic that the coach has reached such an important sustainability milestone.
“Electric coaches are the way of the future to help us reduce our carbon footprint and we’re looking forward to building on this early success as we further develop our electric vehicle fleet,” Bunce says.
“We’re market leaders in transport innovation and believe we have a key role to play in helping our clients achieve their targets to reduce emissions.
“Our results and performance continue to prove the value of investment in innovation and we’ll continue to scour the globe to bring the industry’s best practice into our Australian operations for an energy-friendly future.”
After beginning work in February last year, the coach was officially launched on November 2 by WA climate action minister Reece Whitby and WA regional development minister Don Punch to celebrate the first private electric coach in the state.
Go West is part of international public transport operator Transit Systems, with the latter already operating Australia’s largest fully electrified depot and running hydrogen buses in South Australia and Victoria.
