Go Ahead London welcomes new electric buses

The London operator has welcomed 30 new electric buses into its fleet while its services continue to evolve

It’s been a big week for English operator Go-Ahead London, who has moved routes and introduced new electric buses.

In late April, Go-Ahead introduced 30 new electric buses across its Merton and Sutton Garages, the latter for the first time.

While doing so, Go-Ahead reinforced its credentials as a leading zero-emissions bus company in the UK, with around 350 electric vehicles in its fleet, with more to follow over the coming months.

Further around the UK, Go-Ahead has also farewelled two routes in the Waterloo-based Routes 507 and 521 following a Transport for London review of the bus network last year.

The services were the first in the capital to fully convert to electric buses in 2016 in what has become a globally recognised location for electric vehicles.

The departing services have been filled by a moving Route 214 from Finsbury Square to Highgate, joining another Route in 153 that uses electric buses.

Go-Ahead London’s iconic Route 11 has been moved so that it now goes over Westminster Bridge on the way to Waterloo, with recent tender wins also allowing Go-Ahead to receive two new East London services.

As always, the company says it will work hard to repay the faith placed in it by delivering high quality public transport for local users.

“Along with the Mayor, Transport for London and our supply chain, we are making buses ever more attractive, with record numbers of zero-emission vehicles entering service,” Go-Ahead London managing director David Cutts says.

“A big thank you to the many people involved in seamlessly delivering the latest set of service changes and fleet upgrades, especially garage colleagues working on the frontline.”
