Foton Mobility introduces new energy buses

Foton Mobility says it will bring its new energy hydrogen buses to this year's Bus & Coach Expo

New energy heavy vehicle distributor Foton Mobility is continuing to explore its zero-emission options. Ahead of this year’s Bus & Coach Expo, the Australian-owned company will bring some of its best sustainable products to Sydney.

“We will be showing our hydrogen city bus,” Foton Mobility CEO Neil Wang told ABC. “We will also be demonstrating our 240kw DC quick charger.

“It’s the only one in the market currently that’s a 40kw module – our competitors only use 25kw modules.”

Wang says the bigger 40kw modules will help to reduce the cost of entire equipment ranges for operators looking to transition to zero-emissions energy sources.

Foton’s latest hydrogen bus has only recently arrived at the Foton warehouse ahead of its formal release in August.

Wang says the hydrogen city bus coming to Foton’s warehouse is for operator Transit Systems and comes equipped with the first Toyota hydrogen fuel cell technology in Australia.

“We’re proud of this new hydrogen city bus,” Wang says. “We thank Transit Systems for trusting us and deciding to use the hydrogen city bus in their operations.”

Foton’s latest range comes courtesy of a joint venture with Daimler, Cummins and ZF. Wang says the latest hydrogen bus that Transit Systems will use is its newest city bus design, with the design having been in service at this year’s Beijing Winter Olympics.

But the hydrogen city bus isn’t the only product that Foton will be displaying at the Expo.

“We will release a new product at the Expo that we can’t tell the public about yet,” Wang says. “It should arrive in late September, and it will continue to push our zero-emission bus range.

“We’re also looking to demonstrate our solutions at the Expo. We have an average of 25 years of experience in zero-emissions buses in our team, so we are excited to showcase this with the industry.”
