BCI bringing electric options to Expo

Bus & Coach International (BCI) says it is bringing the best of its zero-emissions options to this year's Australasian Bus & Coach Expo

Recently, Bus and Coach International (BCI) has been investing heavily in zero-emissions vehicles. Now, it gets to show the industry just how far it has come.

“This bus show it’s all about electric vehicles for BCI,” BCI state manager Cameron Millen told ABC. “With all the zero-emission talk in the industry, we thought it was a good time to bring out some new models and display them at the Expo.”

At this year’s Expo, BCI will display its electric school bus alongside its new electric 12-metre low-floor option. To complete its electric offerings, a nine-metre low-floor version will also be on display alongside more traditional diesel coaches. It’s all exciting for Millen and BCI, as the 2022 Expo will mark the first time the manufacturer has shown an electric school bus.

“To bring out our first electric school bus is a big milestone,” Millen says. “We’ve had plans with our zero emissions project since 2019, and this goes a long way towards achieving that.

“We think it’s optimal to have both low and high floor options available in electric models.”

Unfortunately BCI won’t be able to showcase a new mining bus it released due to the model already being sold to a company in Perth. But Millen says this is an optimistic sign for BCI as it seeks to continue transitioning its fleet to zero-emission options.

“Our plan is to transition all models to sustainable technology,” Millen says. “The school and city bus models have been easier than coaches, while we’ve still got hydrogen buses in the pipelines.

“Anything we can build now available in zero-emissions models we will try to produce.”
