Bus and coach deliveries rose by almost 14 percent in 2008, according to data published exclusively by ABC.
ABC’s bus registrations data – based on information collected from major manufacturers – shows a record 1,585 units were delivered in the year, up from 1,383 previously. Deliveries peaked at a high of 167 vehicles in the final month of the year, marginally ahead of the 2007 figure of 161.
Taking out the number-one spot for 2008 was Mercedes-Benz, with 20.69 percent of the market, followed by Scania (16.65 percent), Volvo (16.34 percent), MAN (16 percent), BCI (9.52 percent) and Hino (8.45 percent).
Sales of ‘light buses’, meanwhile, fell by 32.3 percent in January, according to official VFACTS data just released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).
Some 132 units were moved in the first month of the new year, down from 195 in the corresponding month of 2008.
