Bus and coach deliveries were more than 21 percent lower in April than the corresponding month of 2009.

Deliveries numbered 119 in the month, compared with 151 in April of last year – substantially down on the 147 units dispatched in March, according to figures compiled by ABC.

Year to date, deliveries, at 541, are a little under 5 percent off the 568 vehicles delivered in the first four months of 2009.

Underpinning the April result were large deliveries to Busways Blacktown (13 MANs), Transperth (6 Mercedes-Benz), PTD in SA (6 Scanias), Brisbane City Council (15 Volvos) and ACT’s Action (4 MANs and 3 Scanias).

Topping the chassis deliveries leader board was Volvo (42), ahead of MAN (22), Mercedes-Benz (16), BCI (11), Scania (10), Hino (9), White-Higer (5) and Daewoo (2).

Volgren supplied the most bus bodies in April (32), followed by Custom Coaches (29), Bustech (13) and BCI (11).

Thermo King kept top spot in the air-conditioning market, with a dominant 62 units, followed by Denso (21), Coachair (16), Carrier (7) and Kingtec (6).

Schools/charter and city/route again accounted for the vast amount of deliveries.
