Brighsun electric bus smashes world record by travelling 1018 kilometres in Victoria
Brighsun Electric Vehicle Group set a new world record for the greatest distance covered by a single charge electric bus this month.
The world record attempt started at 10pm on November 14 and finished just before midnight the next day on South Gippsland Highway between Tooradin and Lang Lang, Victoria in the presence of Guinness World Record adjudicator Seyda Subasi Gemici.
The electric bus travelled a total of 1018 kilometres to break the world record.
“What it means is that commercial buses can now travel for the whole day or interstate without the worry of having to find somewhere to recharge the batteries,” Brighsun communications director Gladys Liu says.
“We believe it will bring a whole new concept of public transport with no pollution to Australia and to the world.”
Environmentally conscious politicians are excited about the new world record and what an electric bus capable of travelling over 1000 kilometres might mean for the future of Australian public transport.
“This shows how electric buses can slash our carbon pollution and air pollution in our cities,” Victorian senator and Green Party representative Janet Rice says.
Brighsun launched four prototype full electric buses to delegates from around the world at Yuroke, Victoria on October 30 this year.
The buses then performed a single charge drive from Melbourne to Sydney on October 31 this year.
The organisation plans to open manufacturing plants for the vehicles across Australia.
