So far the bus industry, at least the bus sales side, has been shielded from the economic downturn.

As other industries feel the pinch the numbers of buses so far sold through January and February 2009 more buses than for the same period last year (January 122, February 105) and for 2007 (January 93, February 86).

January’s revised figures, with the MAN statistics, shows a sizable 134 vehicles were sold and February figures indicate 130 units have been sold.

Mercedes-Benz has maintained its dominant position in 2009 although players such as BCI have shown sizable growth in the last couple of months.

Could this be a record year for bus sales in Australia?
