DP World has snapped up
Queensland’s Supply Chain and Logistics Association Australia (SCLAA) Future Leaders Award winner Nicole Holyer from the government’s Transform unit.

DP World has offered Holyer a position as Human Resources Advisor, starting at the Port of Brisbane October 1 ahead of
a funding cut for the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Transform unit on June 28, 2013.

Holyer will finish with Transform this week, but not before attending one last event at Redbank Plains State High School
on Thursday celebrating the success of Transform projects GenR8 and TransAction 2012.

TransAction is a joint initiative between the Federal Government’s Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEERWR) and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

DEEWR funded ten adults from the Redbank Plains Community to obtain their bus driving licenses.

GenR8 is a school to work program
with three local businesses involved.

“We started with 18 students and it has expanded to involve 25 student,” Holyer says.

Each student involved in the program works in a business two days a week while completing Cert II in transport and logistics.

Holyer says more than 100 people are expected at the event including representatives from Westside Buses, TNT Express, Allied Pickfords and Sims Metal.”

“We have invited other local businesses to see what the program is all about, as there is a lot of interest in being involved next year,” she says.

“Because Transform won’t be around after June 30 next year, we are really keen to get that engagement happening now so that all the stakeholders are prepped and ready to go for next year. My aim is to create sustainable programs.”

Holyer’s last day at Transform will be the Friday after the event.

“I am definitely going to miss Transform,” Holyer says.

“We’ve done some wonderful work with industry and it’s been an amazing job.”

Hoyler was recently presented with the Queensland division SCLAA Future Leaders Award in Brisbane.

Department of Transport and Main Roads Rail Ports and Freight General Manager Sal Petroccitto says Holyer has inspired beyond her years.

“Nicole goes above and beyond and because of her many industry players are well informed, many young people have started a career path, many adults have entered the industry, and many industry workplaces are a better place to be,” he says.

Led by Queensland’s independent Transport and Logistics Work Force Advisory Group (TLWAG-Q), Transform, at the Department of Transport and Main Roads, has facilitated mentoring and training projects such as Transfutures and Women take the Wheel.
