Bus deliveries declined slightly in March with a total of 82 reported to ABC magazine
Deliveries dropped back down to 82 for March after February’s 97, marking its lowest monthly total for 2022, but not far behind March 2021’s total of 87.
In the chassis sector, Volvo and Yutong were joint first with 18 in March. Following behind with 11 was Scania, up one on its February total, with Mercedes-Benz taking third place with nine. BCI dropped from February’s total of 18 to deliver seven in March, while Hino recorded six – its best result since December 2021. The remaining 26 deliveries were supplied by seven other original equipment manufacturers.
In the body-building sector, Yutong was back on top in March with 18. This one ahead of second place Irizar, with 17, which is its best result since April 2020. Volgren fell to third place with 12, a decrease of 10 from February, while BCI also had a quieter month with seven, compared to the previous month’s 18. Custom Denning’s six, however, is its best result since last August and JBus had its first showing of the year also on six. The remaining 16 were supplied by seven manufacturers, including the first body recorded for TOST for 2022.
In the air conditioning sector, there’s been a dramatic shift in positions, with Thermo King finally being knocked from the top after years of leading in deliveries. Hispacold was the victor in March with 22, which was also its best result since April 2020’s 24. Cling-Yutong took second place with 17 – down one from February – while Thermo King came in third with 16. MCC dropped back down to match January’s result with seven, while Denso recorded its first result of the year with six. The remaining 14 deliveries reported to ABC were provided by five other manufacturers.
At the state level, Western Australia continues to build its bus fleets with another strong month, topping the chart at 28, while Queensland remained in second place at 27, up six on its February result. Victoria came in third with 10 and NSW in fourth with eight, both down on January and February. However, South Australia’s numbers were up on February with a bounce back to seven after the previous month’s one. Two buses from Tasmania made up the total.
