Diesel prices fell by an average of 1.5 cents per litre for the week ending December 18, putting an end to the recent upward trend leading Christmas.
Terminal gate pricing data from the Australian Institute of Petroleum shows prices in all states apart from Darwin hovering around the 112 cents per litre mark throughout the week.
Diesel in Melbourne as per usual was the cheapest in the country, averaging at a price of 112 cents per litre and was closely followed by Brisbane and Sydney which both averaged 112.6 cents per litre.
Adelaide was not far behind in the standings, averaging 113 cents per litre.
As usual Darwin topped the list with an average diesel price of 117.2 cents per litre, 3.6 cents higher than Perth which finished as the second most expensive city for the week at 113.6 cents per litre.
