Deliveries steady

It’s been a strong couple of months for bus and coach deliveries, and the numbers remain steady as we kick on into 2017

Deliveries declined in the last quarter of 2016, after a couple of months of above-average numbers, but manufacturers remain optimistic for the New Year ahead.

For suppliers, December 2016 saw 100 buses delivered, which is exactly the same number that were delivered the month before.  For suppliers, the vast majority of deliveries were Scanias (50), followed by Volvos (30). Yutong was the biggest surprise in terms of manufactures, reporting just three deliveries for the month of December 2016. Iveco had a strong showing with seven deliveries, up from three the month before. All other manufacturers delivered less than four vehicles respectively.

For body builders Volgren led the way by a vast margin with 41, which was slightly down on the 40 reported in October. Bustech had a very strong showing with 23, compared to 13 the month before.  Irizar also had a good month and increased its number to nine, just less than less than the eight recorded in November.

In regards to air conditioning, Thermo King was slightly down compared to the month before and its units were included in the delivery of 38 buses nationwide, a fair way short of the 46 it posted just a few months before in the lead up to summer. Coachair had a strong month and was involved in the delivery of 25 buses. Hispacold is still going strong with 14, and Denso is shy of that on eight.

New South Wales led the way when looking at deliveries on a state by state basis with 38 per cent, followed by Victoria (36 per cent) and Western Australia (14 per cent). Queensland had a relatively weak month in terms of bus deliveries, with just eight per cent.
