There was another small dip in bus deliveries in April, with a total of 79 compared to March’s 82.
In the chassis sector it was Scania’s time to shine with a total of 23, marking an increase of 12 on its March result to reach its highest total this year. BCI came in second place with 15, up eight on its March total, while third place was taken by Volvo on 13. Mercedes-Benz, in fourth, dipped slightly with seven while Custom Denning and I-Bus both marked five deliveries – an increase of one for both compared to March. The remaining 11 deliveries were delivered by six other original equipment manufacturers.
In the body-building sector, Volgren took the lead in April with an impressive 26, marking both its and the overall highest result of the year so far. Custom Denning and I-Bus again marked five deliveries each and the remaining 16 buses were delivered by nine other body builders.
In the air conditioning sector, after March’s shakeup, it seems things have returned to normal with Thermo King once again far ahead of the pack on 35. Hispacold was knocked back into second on 15 after its brief time in the sun – a decrease of seven on its March total – while MCC made a fair showing with 13, up from March’s seven. King Long on five and Coachair on four also showed slight increases on March. The remaining seven were supplied by four other manufacturers.
At the state level, Victoria has muscled its way in to be top for the first time this year on 22, with NSW and Western Australia bringing in second place on 19 each – marking a sizable drop for WA from March’s 28 but an increase of 11 for NSW. Queensland cruised in with 13, after strong February and March totals, while South Australia dropped back to four after March’s seven. Tasmania brought one to the table but we also saw one from the ACT, which hasn’t featured in the bus deliveries section since November 2020. Welcome back!
